Living in Malaysia: Pros & Cons

Told some of my friends that I'll be relocating to Italy, most of my friends congratulate me and all said it is very good to leave this country now, as they don't see future in this country.

Being a Malaysia for 34 years now, I seriously don't think Malaysia is really that bad and needing to leave the country. Each country will have their good and bad points. U.S as a such a huge and developed country, there are many good points in there, but there are also many other bad points. (Find out more? Click here

And, yes. Malaysia has many bad points, such as:
  • Lack of organisation in term of planning e.g. housing, cities and etc
  • Weak leadership
  • Weak city development planning
  • High corruption rate
  • Inefficiency in government departments
  • Racism issues
  • Lack of control in various aspect i.e. immigration, taxation etc
  • Media control
  • High taxation rate
  • Poor public welfare
  • High inflation rate, whereas lower income
  • Poor and inconsistency in education outlines and deliverables

In the other hand, there are good points too:
  • Multicultural society
  • Flexibilities
  • Minimal natural disaster
  • Business opportunities, due to multicultural society
  • Natural resources i.e. oil & gas

These few years, I do see improvement in various areas too, e.g:

  • Public transportation
  • Efficiency in government departments

The relocation is just be a ‘BONUS' to me. Looking at the education system in current Malaysia now (sources: Poor show in Pisa rankings), people tends to send their children in International Schools, Private Schools or even home schoolings. The inconsistency in education systems (switching between Malay & English and syllabus outlines) is in fact worrying everyone, because the standard is not as par as other common standards of education.

I neither able to afford my children in private schools nor sending them to overseas for education. Yet, I have a chance to 'send' them to study in overseas - with my own guidance, that's even a big bonus to me. I know Mr. C would prefer to live in Malaysia (he prefers Asian in all angles, I reckon), but I do hope he would change his mind someday for the children's sake.
